About Lucy

I really enjoy colour! It's what I focus on in my paintings. In fact, until recently, subject matter has been almost a receptacle for the colour I want to show. My favourite paintings by other artists have been celebrations of colour, and one artist who boldly uses the spectrum has influenced me over the years; Wagga Wagga artist, Willy Sheather.

My first major work 'A Pear of Frogs' I painted at age 12 and entered in our local Wagga show (and they titled it 'A Pair of Frogs'in the programme!!). It was well received, and from this I have been encouraged to complete many more pictures. Recently I have been trying new things - a Sydney scene, a few Christian paintings, and I am currently working on a painting for submission for publishing in a children's book. I will keep you updated!

My style is to paint in layers. By this I mean that I paint and paint and paint over that until I get the right colour, tone and shape for the subject matter. I think this has used excessive amounts of paint, but I love looking at the colours shining through!

It takes me a while to finish a work; however, when I am inspired the paint flies! My aim is always to create something colourful that makes people smile; generally not something that makes subtle comments on society, but rather, hopefully, adds some enjoyment to living.

As to the rest of my life - I've lived in Wagga, studied Medicine at UNSW in Sydney, lived in Port Macquarie and in 2009 moved to Newcastle to work with my husband. We are currently expecting our first child. I am one of three originating in Cape Town, South Africa.
